Payroll Managers are responsible for taking ownership of a company payroll and are found in a variety of sectors and sizes of businesses. A Payroll Manager is tasked with ensuring that all employees are accurately paid whilst driving forward process improvements and staying abreast of current legislation. Payroll Managers thrive in fast paced environments and are able to deliver results working to tight deadlines. Payroll Managers require strong communication skills in order to lead a team of Payroll Clerks and are often tasked with resolving complex internal and external queries. Payroll Managers are usually CIPP qualified or possess extensive payroll experience developed over many years in a similar level position. An overview of the daily responsibilities include:
- Creating new payroll processes to maximise efficiency
- Strong leadership skills to drive productivity whilst maintaining good team morale
- Staying up to date with legislation to maintain best practices
- Implementing new software packages
- Overseeing weekly & monthly payrolls
- Year end duties
- Responsible for RTI
- Processing and filing P11D’s
- Adding starters & leavers
- Amendments to employee records including tax codes
- Calculating national insurance and holiday entitlement
- Calculating SSP, SMP & SPP
- Generating P45 & P60’s
- Auditing payroll data to ensure information is accurate and free of discrepancies
- Work to strict deadlines
- Query resolution
